After Ostia we headed back on the train / metro towards the Piazza del Popolo and then jumped onto the tram to Zaha Hadid's Maxxi Museum. We have already experienced the peculiar shapes and forms Hadid creates in the Vitra Museum before visiting this. However, the difference in this design is the playfulness of it. The top room viewing the street has an air vent that shook as we moved near the window and at one point, we thought we were going to fly through it!

The 3FS on tour: Rome day 3 pt. 1
On Wednesday we travelled outside of the city walls to visit Ostia Antica, an archaeological site that you can fimiliarise with Pompeii. Ostia isn't visited by as many people as Pompeii because it is smaller, but it has the same amount of historic substance. We @ The 3FS say that 'when in Rome, venture out to Ostia' (it's also by the coast so you may even see some sandy beaches).

The 3FS on tour: Rome day 2 pt. 2
It was all pretty mind blowing imagining the scale of the events the Romans took part in. Think of the vicious animals and warriors that killed each other every day whilst over 50,000 people watched. The views out of the Colosseum were interesting too. After leaving here we decided to pop up to the Capitoline Museum to look at the sculptures and get some evening shots of the sunset over the Forum.
The 3FS on tour: Rome day 2 pt. 1
The early start in day 2 led us past the Colosseum towards Palatine Hill. The great archaeological site shows the topographical emphasis of the landscape down towards the famous Roman Forum. We walked through the Forum on the way to Capitoline Hill to view the Equestrian statues before entering the Colosseum on the way home (in pt. 2)...

The 3FS on tour: Rome day 1
The sun was out and the air was chilly when we arrived in Rome. But we spent no time putting on the most conventional of walking shoes (brogues) and exploring the city. Firstly we stopped at the converted baths that are now church buildings before heading to the Forum of Trajan and the Campus Martius. We ended the day seeing the monumental Pantheon before stopping off to purchase some of the Italians favourite foods.
